Up to 90% of our waste is diverted from the landfill. In 2016, we diverted 17,670 cubic yards
Composted 3,870 cubic yards
When we compost, we make soil, not trash! Composting diverts food and organic waste from landfills and creates healthy soil that returns nutrients back into our food system.
Water is our most precious finite resource. Two billion people on this planet do not have access to clean water. We have put a strong emphasis on conservation and supporting clean water initiatives. Water is not only central to our survival, but also the most important ingredient in all of our food and beer.
Donated $7,895 to local clean water organizations such as For Love Of Water and Flint Water Fund.
Brewed a beer in collaboration with Grand Rapids Brewing Company called FLOW and donated a percentage of the proceeds to www.forloveofwater.org to help protect clean water in the Great Lakes and continue the push to shut down line 5, a 63 year old oil and gas pipeline running through the straits of Mackinac.
Making strides toward water conservation by not watering all tables, avoiding thawing frozen food under water, and no longer burning ice at the end of the night.

In total, donated over $60,000 to over 170 nonprofits and local charities in our surrounding communities.
These teams work toward sustainability both inside each HopCat location and throughout our community through waste diversion, growing food, learning about our compost and recycling processes, and volunteering at local community gardens and nonprofit organizations. We hope for each HopCat to have a Green Team by the end of 2017.

Donated $13,388 toward local farmers, tree planters, and soil rehabilitators to help revitalize our green space in our local communities for our Earth Day event.
Each HopCat location partners with an organization that is working directly with their local communities to add carbon-sequestering green space to our urban environments through cleaning up vacant lots; remediating contaminated soil; capturing rainwater; planting trees, fruits, vegetables & native plants; supporting wildlife & local pollinators; and growing healthy, organic, accessible produce.
Through partnerships with local breweries, in 2016 we were able to raise over $10,000 for these earth-loving organizations and hope that through continued support, we can increase our donations in 2017!
